MDSX is seeking a talented Production Coordinator for a project at a Philadelphia, PA museum. The Production Coordinator will work both independently and with an assigned team during the installation phase of a new experiential exhibit. This is a temporary position with variable hours (approximately 10-20 per week) from late August through early November.
In this role, the Production Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Onsite coordination during exhibit installation to ensure that exhibit elements are positioned according to the drawings. Actively participating in problem solving when adjustments are required.
- Communicating with vendors including exhibit fabricators, lighting and a/v integrators, riggers and others relative to load-in schedules, storage space, equipment (such as lifts) and other production needs.
- Assisting the onsite art director with verification of installations to ensure that they match drawings.
- Assisting with coordination of scheduling and attending work call times during critical days of the installation period, to help ensure that paths remain clear and vendors have sufficient room to work in the space.
- Communication with the venue’s operations team relative to building infrastructure and operations needs (such as IT or electrical).
- Communicating regularly with the MDSX design and production teams to report and track issues and solutions.
- Attendance at production meetings as needed.
- Misc tasks and errands related to production needs.
Skills Needed for Success:
- Knowledge of entertainment-related production processes (i.e. live entertainment. events, attractions or exhibits), including familiarity with rigging, lighting, and a/v equipment and safety practices
- Understanding of basic construction techniques
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings related to exhibit design, lighting, and a/v.
- General understanding of labor management and trucking logistics
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or Google Sheets & Docs
- Reliability and the ability to communicate professionally, politely and patiently with a variety of vendor and client contacts.
Additional preferred skills:
- Design or art direction experience in an entertainment-design related field is a plus.
- Basic familiarity with building code related to egress and accessibility (ADA)
Availability and other requirements:
- Must be local to the Philadelphia area and have own means of transportation (no travel reimbursement will be provided)
- Must have flexible availability, including evenings and occasional weekends. Hours will vary from week to week.
