Case Study:
Emmett Till Sound & Light Show
Indianapolis, IN

Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See is a traveling exhibit, which kicked off its tour at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, will then begin a journey to seven cities.

This exhibit, three years in the making, was developed collaboratively by the Till family, the Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley Institute, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and the Emmett Till Interpretive Center. The exhibit is funded in part by a lead gift from the Maddox Foundation of Hernando, MS.

“Let the World See” features a sound and light show housing one of the many vandalized markers from the river site where Emmett’s body may have been pulled out of the Tallahatchie River. Mamie Till-Mobley made it her mission to let the world know what was done to her son. Her act of bravery in sharing the truth with the world is what the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis aims to honor with this exhibit.

The exhibit will travel to:

  • Birmingham Civil Rights Institute(Birmingham, AL): Nov. 19, 2022 – Jan. 8, 2023
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library (Washington, DC): Jan 28, 2023 – March 12, 2023
