Case Study:
Wondrous Space
Philadelphia, PA
The Franklin Institute is launching an ambitious five-year mission to replace all its current ongoing exhibitions and transform the visitor experience.
The project begins with development of a new Wondrous Space that is to open in October 2023. TFI is looking to produce a precedent-setting experience that explores astronomy and space exploration in dynamic ways that inspire visitors to look at the sky and think about space with a new understanding. The exhibition is also expected to attract new audiences, create anticipation for future exhibitions, and build momentum for the Franklin Institute’s fundraising efforts.
Wondrous Space will span approximately 12,000/sf over several floors, including one gallery on the second floor.
In addition, the project includes reconsidering TFI’s wayfinding to make navigating the institution less overwhelming. Wayfinding scope will include a building-wide assessment, recommendations for long-term solutions, and development of a building-wide wayfinding plan.
